With the current heat dome baking the Pacific Northwest, leading to buckling pavement and disrupted rail service due to melted cables, the oncoming effects of climate change are difficult to ignore. It's not a question of if it's happening or why it's happening, but how are we vulnerable and what can we do to adapt.

To that end in 2019 Caltrans published a series of reports looking at the probably effects of climate change throughout California. The Climate Change Vulnerability Assessments cover each of the 12 Caltrans Districts, identifying the greatest risks for each region due to rising global temperatures. You can also read the statewide summary. In 2020 Caltrans followed those reports with their series of Climate Change Adaptation Priorties Reports for each district.
